Adelaide is the first city outside of the United States to join the growing US Ignite Smart Gigabit Communities program.

It is a network of more than 25 communities committed to accelerating the development, deployment and sharing of gigabit applications to drive local innovation economies. Adelaide’s involvement in this program is administered by Ignite SA, which is a partnership between the South Australian Government and the University of South Australia.

US Ignite is delighted to welcome Adelaide as the first gigabit city outside the US to join the US Ignite Smart Gigabit Community initiative.

Through Ignite SA, the GigCity network is helping to break the tyranny of distance and enabling innovative local businesses, research institutions and governments to collaborate and share information with their American counterparts.

The end result will be a growing number of communities, including Chattanooga and Austin, Adelaide’s sister city, developing and sharing ground-breaking gigabit applications, data and services.
